FB_20150224_20_26_32_Saved_PictureAs most of us budget our finances to include our medical expenses, are you finding it harder to cover those that traditional insurance do not cover? I chose to seek out a holistic approach to my wellness plan. I receive acupuncture, chiropractic as well a naturopathic care. Traditional medical insurance only covers 12 visits for chiropractic treatments. Acupuncture and naturopaths are not covered. Out of pocket costs are extreme. You have to wonder why if these treatments could help us achieve a state of normalcy in our lives, move us on and away from pain medicines; basically giving us back our health. Why wouldn’t those modalities be included in a wellness package? I tried a go fund campaign to help offset my medical expenses but that failed. I want to live a normal life but this disease has taken that away from me. An example of why I have these questions is this, my Medicare prescription coverage changed at the beginning of the year. All of the prescriptions prescribed for me by specialist’s to combat or deal with the symptoms of Sarcoidosis were denied pending an appeal. All of my doctors wrote letters to explain why the drugs were medically necessary and the insurance company still denied them. Thank God for my husband’s insurance. They covered them but the copayments were higher. All and all, there are many that may not have a fall back insurance as I have. What happens to them. This is why it is important to educate the insurance companies about Sarcoidosis. We are all striving to beat this disease and we have to fight for the inclusion of holistic care to be considered as a part of our wellness care.
