What is Fibromyalgia?
Despite my frequent attempts to explain this condition to my family, acquaintances and even strangers who ask what is wrong with me, I feel like they never really understand WHAT it is. So I thought I’d have a go at explaining it here on my blog.
Fibromyalgia is a long term neurological condition that causes widespread muscular pain. The characteristics of the condition are pain, stiffness and tenderness at specific points of the body- there are referred to as either ‘tender points’ or ‘trigger points’.
As well as the pain aspect of this chronic condition there can be many other symptoms. These include:
- Sensitivity to pain
- Muscle stiffness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Problems with memory and concentration, referred to as ‘Fibro Fog’
